My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the first book I read by this author so I was going in with no idea what to expect outside of the summary I read online. I was very impressed with what I read even though I wish the book was a little longer.
Iggy Gorgress tell the story of a young man who moves back to New York from Germany after he breaks up with his girlfriend while he is still trying to finish his novel. He meets Gladys and after loosing a lot of money at blackjack in Atlantic City he realizes he needs to find a job to continue to live on his own. He finds employment at a store called Caterpillar that sells music related items he used to visit as a teenager. Iggy hits it off with Robbie, and Marta both who work at Caterpillar, along with a bum named Joe. Marta develops a small bit of crush on Iggy despite the age difference, she tells him but Iggy tells her gently that he would like her too if his ex-girlfriend Marlene wouldn’t of hurt him so bad. In the end he threw out his novel realizing has no interest in it anymore. Iggy asks out a girl named Violet who came into the store when he was working. They meet for tea and hit it off. It concludes by Iggy telling Joe he wants to write a book about a character named Violet.
I received this book from Goodreads.
